In Persuit of Perfection....or Adding to Perfection?

Our teal sideboard in one of our amazing clients home
I've been sitting here perusing Pinterest, Beautiful Home Decor Blogs, amazing Facebook pages feeling a little bit humbled and a lot in awe.... it makes me reflect and admire those that can create such beauty that surrounds them and how in the world do they accomplish it?   I say this in anguish as I look around my home and see the dog's leash strewn over the chair in the dining-room...one slipper here, one slipper there...a rolling dust bunny taunts me as I type this, would I ever be able to attain this kind of beauty surrounding me?

The dust bunny culprit

I am pondering this question...rolling it around and around in my head  thinking of our dear clients and then, all of a sudden.....a light-bulb moment....WAIT!  Our purpose is to HELP those that want beauty surrounding them! Then.... and only then I feel a sense of calm settle over me......YES!.....our calling is to help others attain this kind of beauty.... to see their vision and help them create it.  Whew!....now I feel better!

We have had some amazing customers over the years!  Thank You!

One (we have many!) of my many favorite clients to remember is Marty.  Marty and his wife Missy are in the process restoring a gorgeous Ship Captains home on the Connecticut River in Middle Haddam.  Missy surprised Marty with our Linen Press, one that Marty had been admiring for quite a while. Marty was taken totally by surprise and his response was priceless!...a response that I personally was honored to see!  It makes my heart glad to know how much our work is appreciated!
Marty's surprise!

Yes, we work hard, we take our job seriously.  To realize that we are instrumental in helping others attain their vision is a true reward, dust bunnies and all!.  Yes, we are in the pursuit of perfection, we are in the business of helping many attain perfection for their homes!  What more could we ask?

Busy, Busy, Busy!
Wonder what we have been up to?
Well, this year is bringing us projects that are long overdue!  Revamping our website, updating our blog with the intentions of keeping everyone up to date with our goings on!
Updating the website was somewhat of a trial, our web-host decided to change servers, bringing us to our knees us lots of tense moments wondering if we were EVER going to get what we needed to get done, done!
The life of multitasking, Painting Diva is not an easy one!
  • Attending and viewing potential auctions and Estate sales...
  • Packing the vans of awesome finds from auctions and estate sales...
  • Convincing husbands that, yes, WE REALLY NEEDED THIS!... Honest!
  • Unpacking our finds and finding a place in an already overfilled storage area ...
  • Cleaning, repairing and painting furniture...
  • Staging furniture in sub-below temps outside to make it pretty...
  • Talking to customers and arranging shipping...
  • Trying to make sense of what Facebook is REALLY about and why we have to pay now..
  • Tweeting...or trying to tweet and figure out what it does for us....
  • Updating Pinterest and seeing what everyone is doing...
  • Updating Tumblr and trying to grasp how to use it...
  • Instagraming  daily life events and make it seem like we're normal...
  • Spending HOURS perusing Etsy for awesome things we may need...
  • Viewing FORUMS to keep up with new trends and techniques...
  • Making sure our families are taken care of, clean laundry, food in the fridge and a semblance of a clean house! ....and oh yes, dog walking, dog play and an occasional family outing...
The list could go on and on....I am sure you all could add a million things to this list.....

Bottom line?  We LOVE  what we do and we LOVE to see all of you here and on Facebook, you all mean so much to us, we would love to hear your comments and see what the New Year Brings!

A Little This, A Little That, And Volia....

Thursday, July 5, 2012

Did you ever wake up in the middle of the night, tossing and turning....just waiting for the opportunity to do a project that has been rolling around in your head? Well.....today I did one of those projects!  While at the NY gift show this spring we bought some great rusty French wire candle sconces and I have been wondering how they would look their best....they needed  a special touch to make them sparkle....
The day was long and hot, we are once again getting ready for the Brimfield Antique Show. We finished filling our booth, I was tired but still had some creative juices flowing.  What to do???  I know!...I wanted to figure out what to do with the pretty wall sconces!  It was around 4:00 PM and a beautiful dry breeze was calling me under the trees to set up for my project....I decided to go into the bottom of the barn to see what I could find....to unearth some treasures my Dad kept hidden for the time when he wanted to get creative.  It was bittersweet for me, our Dad has been gone for 9 years now, but the memory of him is still alive...it is as if I saw him yesterday. I can almost  hear him say "Lindy, what are you up to?"  My sister and I have not touched any of his garden tools, in fact, his garden hat, gloves and overalls still hang where they were last put by him...somehow this gave me comfort as I forged on to see what goodies I could come up with.
I went into the bullpen, a place he kept all his wood for future projects he had in mind...I found some wonderful wood door panels, most of them had to be at least 100 years old!  My Dad was the original recycler , if it was interesting and had a purpose he saved it! He had carefully taken old doors apart that he found at the landfill and saved the panels.  My dad dabbled in art and painting, I am guessing he was going to paint birds on them possibly...I will never know.  Into the van they went, they needed LOTS of cleaning before I could get started!
I decided to use chalk paint, it would give me the effect I was looking for.  I wanted to keep some of the original, old crackled paint intact, but needed to paint the edges so they would look pretty!

Distressed and waxed, they came out pretty! I did three different colors, one Provence, one  Versailles with the original painted center and one grey and linen distressed.   I then added the sconces to the waxed door panels. (Notice the paint on my hands....no manicure here!)
I was feeling that I had accomplished quite a bit, it was fun to finally tackle a project that I had been thinking about for so long....three done, three more to do.  I have to decide what colors to do next!

Voila!  Finished for today....what colors will be next?
Versailles with the natural old paint center, I love the original crackle!
This larger panel is for a project tomorrow, it came out awesome with French grey underneath with a white wash on top.  Hmmmm...what will I find to put on this beauty?

I smile now when I think that Dad would approve...he would certainly appreciate the fact that I found a use for the panels that he had carefully stored away for a special day....today was that day!

Looking Back and Loving our Customers!

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

I spent some time looking through some photos this morning....remembering some of our customers that we cherish.  I am always amazed at the beauty and creativity that we see when we deliver some of our pieces!  We are so inspired and in awe at some of the decorating talent we see expressed!  We spend the time finding "just the right pieces", refinish them and always wonder where they will end up living!  In this case, two special pieces come to mind.  A pretty little vanity and stool......it didn't take on it's "pizazz" until Cheryl placed in it's rightful place and added the right touches, a gorgeous little nook in her dressing room....
This 1920s tri-fold mirrored vanity has never felt so special I am sure!
Cheryl was also looking for a very small dresser, something petite.....we actually had a 34" dresser...(that is hard to find!), it fit beautifully into the corner of her already gorgeous room!....
Thank you Cheryl for letting take a peek into your fabulous home!  We love to see where our pieces will live, re-purposing vintage pieces bring us such joy knowing that they get a second chance in such beautiful surroundings!

Show and Tell Friday! Our latest creation

Friday, July 30, 2010

We have been intrigued with doing upholstered furniture, here is one of our latest designs that we thought would be great for a Tween's bedroom!  We have picked out one of our favorite fabrics called "shopping Spree".  A beautiful apple green linen with stitched polka dots has been added to the bottom.  We topped it all off with gorgeous rose appliques and painted her a creamy white!  Fit for an Princess bedroom!

AFTER

This is what the bed looked like before!  This bed needed a lot of tender loving care!
We love recycling old and making it new!
BEFORE
Quite a difference if I do say so myself!  What fun this project was!
