Once I laid eyes on her, I knew that I HAD to have her....Sitting there all alone in a corner of a dark and lonely antique store....I saw her potential.  My mind was racing about the possibilities that lay before her.......  I had just gotten out of the hospital, my arm in a sling.  Yep...I had just gotten home from a total shoulder replacement!  That particular day I decided to ride along with my husband as he delivered two of our recently restored armoires to a dear customer in Rhode Island.   On our trip homeward my eyes were darting left and right for hidden treasure spots where I could find a special piece that may be awaiting a new life! I SPOTTED IT! A shop hidden in the bushes, I caught a glimpse of part of an overgrown sign that said "ANTIQUES".   A delighted squeal erupted from me and almost scared my hubby to death!  I then asked my husband nicely  yelled for my husband to go back so I could look inside.  He humored me and around we turned, me sitting at the edge of my seat with great anticipation.  "You know you aren't going to be able to work on furniture for a couple more months" he said......"Um....I know" I said with weak conviction, I'd find a way to continue my work even if it meant I would become left handed!  Inside I went and there SHE was!  The most beautiful 1920s china closet, pristine yet in need of finding a new purpose, a new look and a new home.  

I checked her out top to bottom, wiggled her legs, opened her drawers, looked at her interior....great bones, no issues, just in need of some TLC.  

It would be months before I could tackle her,but that was OK, it was all good as long as I knew she could come home with me, it was her time to join the 21st century, her time to shine!

Now that I am in full swing again and fully recovered, it was time to restore this beauty, turn her into a dream come true.  Working on her made sis and I smile, seeing her turn into a beautiful piece of art made us happy.  We carefully took her apart, shelves removed, grill removed, glass removed, we painstakingly gave her the attention she needed, she was worth it!

Here she is finished:

We painted her a shade of creamy white, distressed her lightly and added beautiful crystal knobs to her door and her drawers.

If you look inside the drawers you will find a pretty surprise!

Each of her drawers have been painted a pretty shade of French blue, lovingly stenciled with a beautiful flower basket stencil.  

This stunning china closet will be the centerpiece of someone's home!

 Her beautiful carved legs are so typical 1920s.... full of romance and are so charming!

 Her interior two shelves have plate grooves, perfect for platters and dishes

We make such messes when we refinish!.....

It makes me wonder how we turn messes into pretty things!

But we do!!  Ha Ha Ha!....somehow!

The Paris Grey felt right for this dainty 1920s side table...I am a fan of heavy distressing so I sanded her down with a sanding block, allowing her to take on a personality of her own...

Once she was distressed in "all the right places", I took out my handy wax brush and went to town with some soft wax......I loved the way the wax darkened the Paris Grey.....just the shade I was hoping for....

and then......

Using Paris Grey, Annie Sloan chalk paint on this pretty little table was the Saturday afternoon adventure I was in need of!  She came out so pretty!

Did you ever wake up in the middle of the night, tossing and turning....just waiting for the opportunity to do a project that has been rolling around in your head? Well.....today I did one of those projects!  While at the NY gift show this spring we bought some great rusty French wire candle sconces and I have been wondering how they would look their best....they needed  a special touch to make them sparkle....

The day was long and hot, we are once again getting ready for the Brimfield Antique Show. We finished filling our booth, I was tired but still had some creative juices flowing.  What to do???  I know!...I wanted to figure out what to do with the pretty wall sconces!  It was around 4:00 PM and a beautiful dry breeze was calling me under the trees to set up for my project....I decided to go into the bottom of the barn to see what I could find....to unearth some treasures my Dad kept hidden for the time when he wanted to get creative.  It was bittersweet for me, our Dad has been gone for 9 years now, but the memory of him is still alive...it is as if I saw him yesterday. I can almost  hear him say "Lindy, what are you up to?"  My sister and I have not touched any of his garden tools, in fact, his garden hat, gloves and overalls still hang where they were last put by him...somehow this gave me comfort as I forged on to see what goodies I could come up with.

I went into the bullpen, a place he kept all his wood for future projects he had in mind...I found some wonderful wood door panels, most of them had to be at least 100 years old!  My Dad was the original recycler , if it was interesting and had a purpose he saved it! He had carefully taken old doors apart that he found at the landfill and saved the panels.  My dad dabbled in art and painting, I am guessing he was going to paint birds on them possibly...I will never know.  Into the van they went, they needed LOTS of cleaning before I could get started!

 I decided to use chalk paint, it would give me the effect I was looking for.  I wanted to keep some of the original, old crackled paint intact, but needed to paint the edges so they would look pretty!

 Distressed and waxed, they came out pretty! I did three different colors, one Provence, one  Versailles with the original painted center and one grey and linen distressed.   I then added the sconces to the waxed door panels. (Notice the paint on my hands....no manicure here!)

Voila!  Finished for today....what colors will be next?

This larger panel is for a project tomorrow, it came out awesome with French grey underneath with a white wash on top.  Hmmmm...what will I find to put on this beauty?

I smile now when I think that Dad would approve...he would certainly appreciate the fact that I found a use for the panels that he had carefully stored away for a special day....today was that day!

The days are flying by!  Where has the summer gone?  We have been busy getting ready for the Brimfield Antique Show, September 6-11th.  Busy, busy, busy!  I have been intrigued by the new colors we are trying...the French Teal has been one of my favorites.....

While spelunking in our storage barn, I came across the prettiest little piano stool and wire magazine rack that I decided to do in French Blue...reminiscent of pretty blue hydrangeas..

Just finished one of the prettiest vanities we have had the pleasure to rescue!
