Is Spring on It's Way? We're Getting Ready!

The birds have actually started singing their spring songs.....so nice to hear. Winter hasn't gotten the best of us this year, it actually has been very mild! I think it's a reward for the trials we faced last winter! We have been busy trying to keep out web site filled, but thanks to our loyal sweet customers it just never seems to stay that way! No complaints here! The fun is coming up with new ideas and pretty usable items and keeping ahead of trends. We are always searching for great items to have to offer on line and at our Brimfield Antique show! The addition of color has been new for us, one that has been a successful addition. Here is a little peek at some new items we have recently added to our web site.

We have just finished this amazing brass and iron twin bed. The line on it are wonderful! The gentle curve of the foot board makes this bed such a special piece!

We have painted her a shade of pretty French Teal and gave her finish a time worn weathered look.

We cleaned her lovely brass fittings but left a little patina to make her look like the vintage beauty she is!
We have been finding some AWESOME upholstered pieces to redo, we thought this end of the bed petite couch came out adorable!

We have newly painted her a creamy white, lightly distressed and then had her upholstered in a vintage looking rose chintz. The piping has been done in a dreamy pink plaid......the combination is scrumptious! The rose chintz fabric is reminiscent of the type of fabric you would see in the 1940s......sO rOmAnTiC!

We chose to use box pleats around the bottom to give her a pretty Romantic Cottage Look.

Something about the box pleats and the pink plaid piping makes me smile....
How about a 1920s radio cabinet turned into a fabulous shelf? It would be the perfect candidate for some great storage baskets.....

She would be fun to use in a bathroom, library, cottage bedroom or family room...the possibilities are endless!
Tomorrow is a new day.....wonder what we will come up with? Hmmmm....we'll see!

New Projects!

WOW! I admire you ladies that can keep up with it all! I get so ~~jealous~~ happy to see everyone Facebooking, Blogging AND decorating your homes in such a beautiful fashion! I need some lessons on how to get it all done! Just want to say how much we appreciate those that drop by to check out what is happening. We are working to fill our stock and get orders done. In the midst of it all I succeeded in taking out the meniscus in my left knee after doing the same thing to my right knee in July. Almost 6 months to the day! I am not a happy camper as you can imagine with trying to get projects done! In between orthopedic visits, physical therapy and surgery I will be posting projects! Here are a few that we have been doing.

A very pretty classic sideboard with spoon feet and mirrored back splash. We have enhanced her with pretty rose garlands and crystal knobs.

A wonderful 1950s French Provincial full bed frame upholstered, appliqued and stenciled.

An awesome 1930s tiara top mirror vanity with doors, such pretty detailing!

A very pretty 1920s upholstered bench done in French Pewter, heavily distressed. We had her upholstered in a gorgeous Ralph Lauren printed linen. The springs have been newly tied, her stuffing is new. Such a nice piece in person!

Got lots more in the works, we are working hard for the Spring Brimfield show to have lots of pretties to fill our booth! The May date this year is May 8-13, Mark your calender!

Not Just a Silver Lining...

We took the plunge! We have been toying with using metallic paints for a while now but needed to find the perfect piece to start with. Using metallic paints seemed a daunting task, one that I was not sure about but after some trial and error, we think the petite French wicker sideboard turned out amazing!

I scoured the blogs and internet on tips on working with metallic paints....not too much information out there....one important step that I did glean was to make sure to use grey primer under the metallic paint. Missing that step makes for a mess! And boy....did I have a mess!

We painted the top surface of the server and HATED, hated, hated how it looked....I wasn't sure if it needed to be lightly distressed or heavily distressed...or not painted at all...arrrggg!...it kind of reminded me of restaurant stainless steel...NOT the look we were going for!

Oh! what to do!......sanding the top paint off was in order along with heavier distressing...thoughts of ditching the project kept crossing my mind....Alas! This project was not going to get the best of me!

So after fussing and mussing, I took the plunge and sanded the top leaving hints of silver paint, making her look just right! A lot of distressing, a little staining and a lot of waxing gave her the look I wanted....

Ah! she looked so pretty in the sunlight! Just the right amount of distressing made her POP!

I can just imagine her in the right setting! She will certainly shine!

We won't be so afraid of metallic paints in the future, trial and error made us brave!

Such a pretty sparkling gem!

Cottage Square Bottom Bed, So Fantastic!

The things dreams are made of....romantic furniture from an era when life was a little simpler! We have turned this art deco beauty into a piece of usable art. Can't you imagine her piled high with pretty pillows?

She was sitting in a lonely corner of our local Auction house. She caught our eye.....we knew she could once again be beautiful....a sight to behold!

We pulled her out from the wall and noticed she had a gorgeous square bottom....OH! how lovely she would be once again, we decided she needed to go home with us to get a makeover! We worked our magic, restored her to perfection! She is now waiting to spend the rest of her happy years in a beautiful Romantic Cottage Home!

Romance and Flowers...Remembering a Year Ago....

I think that we have mentioned that both Sue and I at one time in our career(s) were involved in the florist industry. Sue went to Florist Design School in Wellesley Mass and I was self taught by watching her work her magic! I ended up in the Florist Industry for many years, bridal consultation was my specialty and my passion. Last year at this time we created some pretty fantastic floral arrangements for a family member. Her wedding reception was taking place at the Branford House in New London, Connecticut, a gorgeous old mansion now used for such fabulous events. A year before we had gone there to help plan the decorations, once seeing the place we realized we had our work cut out for us! What a gorgeous facility, so magnificent!

The bride had some beautiful ideas in mind, she loves old romantic movies, vintage looking clothing, all things grand, and this venue certainly made a dramatic initial impression and offers an almost overstimulating array of architectural and visual detail! Using her words, we worked hard to create what her vision would be:

"I would have liked the arrangements even without the plumes, but the generous scattering of peacock and ostrich feathers turned up the glamor quotient and made everything a little bit more special and a little more “me.” With visions of flappers holding ostrich feather fans and Ginger Rogers floating across a dance floor with a skirt made entirely of ostrich plumes tumbling around in my head, feathers also say “vintage” to me, which was perfect for my theme. The floral arrangements and bouquets were some of my favorite details about the wedding."

Fully armed with all the information about the bride we could gather, Sue and I set off to create our interpretation of this special day.

We were going to be guests at this beautiful wedding, so with the help of our willing husbands, ladders, numerous buckets of roses, berries, greens and hydrangea's, we headed off to the Branford House in the wee hours of the morning to get started transforming it into a bridal dream...

The main hall upon entering had a two story walnut fireplace with a marble surround. It was spectacular in stature, it would easily swallow up flower arrangements unless they were made large enough to make a statement. The two candles in glass cylinders on the floor would eventually be placed on the mantle......easily 35 lbs each, our husbands were given the task to accomplish this! They each were 38" tall. Scarey!

Two side ballrooms also had pretty mantles that needed decoration.

We lined the table arrangements against the walls waiting for the caterer to place on the tables upon set up. Each arrangement was 48" tall upon completion. Can you believe the gorgeous decoration on the walnut wall panels?

We added Ostrich feathers on the bottom of the hydrangea, rose and berry arrangement for a beautiful vintage "flapper" feel.

These amazing arrangements were lined up in the side ballroom, ready to be placed on the tables. The bride came into see them for the first time, her excitement was hard to contain....the picture say's it all! Her happiness and joy tickled us.....she LOVED them! I really don't think she expected them to be so pretty!

Then we were off to show her her bridal bouquet which pleased her also!

We put a fluffy, romantic collar of ostrich feathers around the bouquet of English garden roses, pearls and berries.....perfect! Then she examined the bridesmaids bouquets. Peacock feathers were in order with jewel tones...

The day was spectacular.......mid 70's...bright blue skies....a perfect day for a wedding!

The caterer arrived and we started to see our work come together once the tables were set...

All of the ballrooms were set up and ready to go.....ah! Sooo pretty!

The wedding was a dream come true, the Bride and the Bridegroom were happy (and beautiful)!

They were rewarded with the most gorgeous sunset that I can remember!

And WE were rewarded with a delicious dinner!

OH! What a night we had!

Looking Back and Loving our Customers!

I spent some time looking through some photos this morning....remembering some of our customers that we cherish. I am always amazed at the beauty and creativity that we see when we deliver some of our pieces! We are so inspired and in awe at some of the decorating talent we see expressed! We spend the time finding "just the right pieces", refinish them and always wonder where they will end up living! In this case, two special pieces come to mind. A pretty little vanity and stool......it didn't take on it's "pizazz" until Cheryl placed in it's rightful place and added the right touches, a gorgeous little nook in her dressing room....

This 1920s tri-fold mirrored vanity has never felt so special I am sure!

Cheryl was also looking for a very small dresser, something petite.....we actually had a 34" dresser...(that is hard to find!), it fit beautifully into the corner of her already gorgeous room!....

Thank you Cheryl for letting take a peek into your fabulous home! We love to see where our pieces will live, re-purposing vintage pieces bring us such joy knowing that they get a second chance in such beautiful surroundings!

Painting and Baby (puppy) Sitting

Sister Sue and her hubby took a couple of days off and Auntie (me) agreed to take care of Ozzie....all at the same time I was going to try to paint an amazing sideboard I have wanted to tackle....Glad to say that Ozzie was a precious boy and cooperated nicely throughout the day....he even helped me! He agreed to pose pretty for me when I finished the piece!

He wasn't quite sure what he should do, then he got it!

For a 9 week old puppy, he is smart, happy and willing to entertain himself nicely....I was happy too, it allowed me to get some work done, good dog!

This piece was so much fun to do!!!!

I added a gorgeous stencil motif to add some charm...

Beautiful side detailing....fabulous legs!

So smooth and lovely!

The top has been left natural, stained and varnished......

She will be posted on line for sale maybe tonight or tomorrow...

Our Progress Report....

After the great show we had in September the need to restock our website with great new pieces is pressing! Working hard every day is not new to us, but WOW! our progress has not been what it usually is! WHY? you ask.....(drum roll please......) *THIS* is WHY!.....Enter Oswald, AKA Ozzie:

Ozzie, in his 9 week splendor, such a good boy, but WOW! puppies are hard work!

We lost our Molly, Sue's 12 year old yellow lab in June. It certainly took its toll on us, our workroom needs canine companionship! Life is never the same for us without it. (We miss you Molly!) So in between puppy play and kisses with a few potty breaks thrown in we ARE getting the work done! A few new pieces will be going on line this afternoon!

In the meantime, Caleb is waiting patiently to drive me to the next auction (his favorite thing in the world, he LOVES auctions!)

What a joy it was to speak with Robin Baron and Mollie Magill from Simplifying Fabulous about tips for new shoppers at the Brimfield Antique Show. We were so excited to see ourselves featured in Interior Designer Robin Baron's blog! The blog post shares great tips from various dealers throught Brimfield on how to get the most from time spent there! We look forward to seeing many new faces visiting us next year! Thank you Robin and Molly for taking the time to interview us!

We are now off to some auctions to find some SIMPLY FABULOUS pieces to restore so we can fill up our website for our wonderful customers, stay tuned!

Brimfield Antique Show September 2011

Wow! What a time it was! The weather went from the full gamut of typhoon to hot and sunny! One day we were wearing rain parkas, down coats and rubber boots then by Friday we were back into shorts and flip flops! One statement about the show would be "typical New England weather!" One comical sight was the dealer next to us that put his wooden duck decoys out to enjoy the "pond". By the time I took this picture, it had mostly dried up, before that they had the joy of swimming the whole front of our booths! QUACK!

One of the highlights of the week was actually getting to meet a Amy from Maison Decor!

Amy has always been an encouragement, just reading her blog makes you want to go out and do something creative! She is just as charming and sweet in person as she is in her blog and posts. It was such fun meeting her in person! I have suggested that she head up a bus trip next May to come to Brimfield with fellow bloggers, we could host a tea party and a stop off point to rest!

While I was out and about, I ran into Amy and Sue merrily checking out the "chic" booths, looks like she found a treasure!

After a hard day of shopping, Amy stopped back at our booth sit sit and chat with Juniper Hill Sue:

The weather almost got us at the start, but once again we have to thank our faithful, wonderful customers for a great show in September 2011!

The 1930s were so romantic! Looking fondly at the vintage 1930s wardrobe that we have just finished, I was wondering if Jean Harlow was going to walk down a winding staircase.....

What an amazing age of furniture! So soft, easy on the eyes and the detailing just delish! ♥♥♥

Ikea has nothing on this style of furniture! Solid wood construction, dove tailed drawers...The amazing deep drawer on the bottom for blue jean storage, a narrow drawer below the double doors for socks and undie storage. Open the doors and you will find a hanging bar for children's clothes, suits or skirts with bars on the side for belts and scarves...Tons of storage! Amazing detailing with original carvings....

So pretty done in distressed white, we have added rose garland drops and a pretty rose wreath to add to the romantic charm this piece already possessed. Oh! The joy of repurposing such beautiful pieces of furniture!

Roses, Ruffles and Plaid! A New Chair is Done!

So pretty! We have just finished restoring and upholstering a pretty little chair from the 1940s.....we fell in love with her bones and added a dainty whimsey apron on the front with a pretty floral wreath...

Painted her creamy white and distressed her in all the right places!

Her pretty umbrella back and spooled arms make her....ahhhh.....so French Country!

A double flounce ruffle, roses mixed with plaid is such a great touch!

Getting Ready....Brimfield Here We Come!

The days are flying by! Where has the summer gone? We have been busy getting ready for the Brimfield Antique Show, September 6-11th. Busy, busy, busy! I have been intrigued by the new colors we are trying...the French Teal has been one of my favorites.....

We have just finished the prettiest little English Silver chest in light teal, complete with pretty crystal knobs...

I fell in love with an old RCA radio cabinet that was begging for a new life...We painted her French Teal with an antique white interior and added some pretty storage baskets, perfect for a chic office, bedroom or bathroom storage...Just the right "pop" of color!

While spelunking in our storage barn, I came across the prettiest little piano stool and wire magazine rack that I decided to do in French Blue...reminiscent of pretty blue hydrangeas..

Just the right shade of blue!

This wonderful piano stool with its fabulous ball and claw feet holding glass marbles...wouldn't this be fun in front of a chic white vanity for a little splash of color?

Ah yes, did I mention this wonderful pair of chairs I found in storage? Just think how beautiful these would be mixed around a cottage chic table!

Well, I am off to do more looking around in the storage barn to see what I can come up with next! Stay tuned!

It was a gorgeous day on Saturday and I chose to spend it painting! Sometimes I think passion can get the best of us! I absolutely did enjoy myself though!

Done in a gorgeous shade of grayish blue/green, reminiscent of antique pewter, I thought this hutch would look perfect in a French style country kitchen.....

The interior done in a pretty ochre and the top waxed and left natural will make pretty collectibles shine!

I picked some tansy in the yard and liked the color and texture.....I LOVE the smell of tansy,

reminds me of days at the beach...

I went home happy, fulfilled and tired, hoping that this pretty French Country Hutch will find a new life in a great home.

Breathing New Life Into Vintage Furniture...

My thoughts always turn to wondering where a piece of furniture has been all it's life, what kind of family it has lived with and was it happy? Sounds silly, but I often wonder what would happen if we could peek inside the history of each piece that we re-purpose for a new life...how did she end up alone?

As I was working on this pretty little cedar chest, I wondered if she had once been used for a hope chest~perhaps she lovingly stored wonderful linens and pretties for the future dream of a special new home.....

Maybe a beautiful wedding dress and lingerie for that ~special day~ many long years ago?

She sat lonely and sad at a local estate sale and we just HAD to take her home. I assured her she would one day have a life that would become her, a second chance if you will...We decided that in her new life, she would wear a luscious teal. Very bold for a lady her age!.... I'd like to think that she is smiling with anticipation of what her new life will bring.....will she belong to a new bride? ~ Will she live by the sea? ~ Will she live in a childs room?....Or perhaps she will be a city chest and lovingly store winter sweaters and scarves? Hmmmm.....stay tuned to find out! :)

Roses galore! We found the most spectacular French Provincial tall chest that we have ever seen! I don't think I have ever seen such a narrow dresser that is so tall. We have added the roses, but all the other carvings are original. Soooo Pretty!

Just when we thought we had found the most amazing piece with the dresser above, we found these fabulous pieces! (there is a matched set, we only have one done). Two gorgeous French Provincial Bombay style armoire's. They were painted yellow and pink, we of course changed them to creamy white and added scrumptious rose appliques. The date inside is 1979.

If I had a place to put them in my home I surely would!

A Newly Upholstered Beauty!

We have just finished our latest slipper chair and are thrilled with the results! It was fun finding the fabrics and matching them all!

We used beautiful pink rose chintz to start with, then decided to use a gorgeous green plaid chintz for the delicious ruching for the top of the heart back and the bottom of the seat, a beautiful candy pink and cream stripe is used for the cording, arms and the sweet nickle sized buttons used on the tufting on the front of the sweetheart back. The adorable flouncy two layered skirt is done in pink and cream stripe with an underskirt of green plaid chintz........oh! delish!

We have just finished a wonderful Bergere also, so elegant! The fabric used is classic Ralph Lauren, topped off with cream linen with stitched dots and dreamy raspberry striped chintz piping. Luscious!

We have been intrigued with doing upholstered furniture, here is one of our latest designs that we thought would be great for a Tween's bedroom! We have picked out one of our favorite fabrics called "shopping Spree". A beautiful apple green linen with stitched polka dots has been added to the bottom. We topped it all off with gorgeous rose appliques and painted her a creamy white! Fit for an Princess bedroom!

It isn't often that we get to see where our finished furniture resides! We had the opportunity to deliver four pieces of our furniture to a wonderful customer we met at the Brimfield Antique Show last week. We were so pleased to see the pieces put in place to see them in their full glory. What an amazing Romantic Home!

What a spectacular home, I wanted to stay there! Everything was so beautifully decorated!

We added the cottage dresser in the corner of the dining room.

We just finished another Brimfield Antique show and met some amazing new customers! What fun we had with old friends and new acquaintances! The weather was hot, a few storms thrown in, but our faithful customers old and new came once again to wish us well and to see all the new pretties we had. Our show was a raging success, we left at the end of the week tired and happy! Our husbands were happy because the load was light coming home!

A New Line of Vintage Boys Furniture!

We have decided to start doing a line of vintage, retro inspired boys room furniture. It is so hard for our customers to find great furniture for boys! The furniture we are doing brings back the nostalgic feelings of years gone by, back to a time when life seemed a little slower and more fun! We are transforming furniture from the 1940s-60s into pieces of usable art, furniture that is solid wood and has another 100 years in it! Family wedding in NYC!

We just spent the most beautiful weekend in NYC at my nephews wedding. It was held at a quaint Restaurant, Freeman's Sportsman Club which was at one time a Sportsman's club at the turn of the century. While I am not big on taxidermy, all that is in the club are historic and looks more like a museum. I must say that it was a beautiful, trendy destination for a wedding and we had so much fun!

The flowers and decorations were gorgeous, real poppies and artichokes were put on the mantle....and my sister and I created rose and berry arrangements in birch containers wrapped with twine that we made. The birch vases added to the natural theme in the restaurant.

The back bar was used to prep flowers for the wedding...

The original bar and cabinetry were amazing, just imagine the stories and camaraderie there in the 1800's!

The birch vases that we created looked so pretty on the tables!

The artichoke dip was to die for!

And of course you can't forget the delish Magnolia cupcakes from the world famous Magnolia Bakery on Bleeker Street!

The bride loved her bouquet of ranuncula's that I created for her!

The ceremony took place in the Tavern Room in front of the fireplace...

(I didn't want to put pictures of the ceremony yet because I didn't get permission!)

What a wonderful, fun, romantic day we had with our beloved family and friends!

Oh My! It is so hard to believe that we are only 9 weeks away from the Brimfield Antique Show! Winter has seemed so long and dark, but the Spring season will soon be upon us and time will start to fly by again! We have been hard at work, filling orders for custom pieces of furniture and also digging up new ideas to keep us excited for the season to come. We are excited to announce that we have started to offer a line of vintage, newly upholstered furniture. This will be a new venture for us, we hope that our customers will be as excited as we are! Here are a couple of new offerings we have currently and will be adding more as time goes on. It has been so much fun finding pieces that we think our customers will love!

A new young man in our lives!

Sadly, we lost one of our beloved working companions two weeks ago. My sister and I have always had our dogs at our feet as we work on our furniture projects. After 11.5 years, our faithful Aussie, Digby had to say goodbye. It was with great emotion that we let him go. He was so much a part of our daily work day. But......we now have a new little boy to join Molly, our beautiful, gentle yellow lab. She is so willing to have him join the crew, we are so proud of her. We welcomed Caleb to the fold, a 10.5 month old Aussie boy that had to be given up by his previous owners because of financial and health problems. We traveled 17 hours round trip to rescue him and give him his forever home. He is quite the character, just take one look at him and you will understand why we all love him already...........

Ice Castles in the Sun!

What an experience! One that we will never forget for sure. Driving the winding road up to Mohonk Mountain House was a breathtaking spectacle. Every curve in the road brought us closer to the ice castle in the sky, the gem of the Hudson River Valley. We were quite surprised to see what lie ahead of us, from the bottom of the mountain we saw ice glistening, but surely we were not ready for what finally awaited us!

Every branch was covered with an inch of ice with the sun sparkling through! Even the parking lot lamps were a thing of beauty! AHHH!

There wasn't much to say except to stare in awe.....

Everyone up there stood in quiet reflection, how could anything be that beautiful?

This bench wanted to welcome you to sit and just gaze....

Even the red winter berries were decked out in their glory....

What a glorious time we had! One never to be repeated I am sure....

It's Show and Tell Friday!

I have a great love for vintage oil paintings, I cannot pass one up if the price is right! Since it it's Show and Tell Friday, I will show off my unbeliveable find from the Brimfield Mass antique show. I found this many years ago. I was wandering the field at May's and stumbled across this beauty. Being uneducated about art, I was drawn to the subject matter and thought it would look wonderful hanging in my kitchen.

I was too afraid to ask the price for fear it would be WAY out of the range of reality. I left for home and couldn't stop thinking about it because I loved it so much. It tugged at me and I made my husband drive me back up to Brimfield that night at dusk. It was getting dark and fear struck me that I may have missed it and wouldn't remember what booth I saw it at. After about a half hour of frenzied running up and down the aisles.....there it was! Dusty and dirty, stuffed in a corner on the ground.... Waiting for me! I swallowed my fear and asked the gentleman how much he wanted for it, figuring that it would be in the hundreds....."$20.00" he said "and it's yours" I just about dropped dead!

Of course my hand trembled as I bought it, realizing that it must surely be worth more than that!

I did research and found that it was done by a signed artist.....an artist that was well known for doing landscapes, his still life paintings are really rare....

It now hangs proudly in my kitchen as a reminder that there are still wonderful works of art to be found in unsuspected places if you look hard enough!

While going through some pictures of our recent visit to Williamsburg VA, I was once again reminded of the absolute beauty of Colonial Williamsburg, a piece of history that has been restored for us to enjoy. I know my impression is one of romance and grandeur, but the reality is that it was a hard way of life unless you were rich.....I know I wouldn't have been rich....but it is nice to daydream of days gone by....

The words of that song from the Mamma's and Papa's come to mind every fall. My sister and I usually will sing it on our gallivanting trips on our way to auctions and estate sales. Somehow the feeling of brown falling leaves and grey skies brings about a warm feeling of wanting to bake and do some nesting and collecting! We accomplish both while we enjoy each other's company. Talk about nesting, how about this luscious pie that we made today? We added crust leaves to the top to herald in the blustery fall day...

Yummy.....apple cranberry pie, can it get any better than that with a cup of tea?

My sister is an avid collector of Blue Calico dishes, so pretty atop a chic and shabby table with vintage lace doilies! She has the most awesome pie server to die for in sliver, notice the butterfiles and flower etchings...

My love of pewter drives me to collect all different types of pretties.... How about this really rare cream pitcher with ram heads and legs? I have left the patina on it because it is so awesome! I would guess that it is an art deco piece, circa 1920's

Pewter coffee pots drive me wild too...

Sometimes I wish these items we collect could talk.....I would love to know where they came from and know all the secrets they could tell!

And oh yes! The pie was scrumptious!

It's Show and Tell Friday!

Ok, I admit it, in my past life, I was a florist and wedding consultant. I have since left that profession and pursued an antique business with my sister. The joy of working with flowers is never forgotten, sort of like how you never forget how to ride a bike! I will share with you two of the latest wedding creations I have recently done, after all it is "Show and tell Friday", a time when we are allowed to brag about our talents!
My nephew and new nieces wedding:

The love for flowers will always be in my soul. Doing wedding flowers for cherished family and friends is very different than doing them for strangers, the quest for excellence and pleasing them is very stressful and yet exhilarating! We were so pleasantly surprised when my nephews wedding pictures hit the front page and inside of Professional Photographer magazine. It was a proud Aunt moment!

The vast assortment and colors available today is amazing! To be let loose in the refrigerator of the wholesale floral warehouse can be both mind boggling and thrilling at the same time! These bouquets looked stunning with the antique apple color dresses the bridesmaids wore in a cousins wedding. This picture was taken while the bouquets were still being stored for delivery in the florist box.

Even the joys of making simple bouquets for anniversary parties is a fun adventure, I used local flora and fauna for some pretty unstructured arrangements for a special friend of ours. Searching the roadsides for wild asters and hydrangea was fun! Lots of neighbors graciously let us cut a few hydrangea from their yards. We used all of our antique coffee pots and crocks to pull off beautiful table arrangements. The effect was stunning in the 1860s theater that we rented.

All in all, I have to admit that going back to my flower arranging days is sometimes a fun break from refinishing furniture, certainly one that brings joy to lots of loved ones, and happiness in knowing that I have added to their special day!

"Summers Glory, a distant reminder!"

It's always fun when my husband and I decide to take a furniture delivery personally to some quaint place! This happened last week when we delivered a charming set of twin beds to a customer in Rockport Mass. A perfect excuse to get out and play along the way! We decided to take in the unbelievable beauty captivating Rockport has to offer. Although the day was a little grey, the lovely scenery that surrounded us was unmistakable. Walking along Bearskin Neck was fun, going in and out of the shops, stopping for a warm bowl of clam chowder to thaw our bones! The flowers decorating the shops were still grand~ a reminder of the past summers glory!

We particularly loved the pink hydranea along the side yard of this home, so pretty!

And of course, we wouldn't be proper tourists unless we took a picture of the most photographed fishing shack in the world! Motif#1!

We continued our journey to Halibut State Park. The gentle walk down a forrest path to the ocean will yield views that you will remember for a long time. It is a perfect place to bring your picnic, children and dog for a fun day of hiking and just plain relaxing aside an unspoiled ocean. A water filled rock quarry mirrors the ocean below.

Walking along the path to the ocean will delight with pretty folliage-such as the bittersweet winding around the tree tops.

All in all, our trip to Rockport Mass to deliver furniture turned out to be a delightful day! An adventure that allowed us to meet face to face with our customer and admire their beautiful home, taking in the charming, romantic sights was our added bonus!

Sage, the Sweet Smell of Fall Harvest!

Today was the day that we harvested the sage that sits in the herb garden behind our barn. The frosty green leaves ripe for the harvest! I figured there is no better way to enjoy the sweet smell of sage then to make myself a wreath as a keepsake of the summer past. I usually keep one of these wreaths hanging in the kitchen, an easy way to have dried sage close at hand for cooking. The beautiful deep green frosty leaves dry nicely and can be pinched off little by little to add to winter cooking.

A great recipe to try! Oh Yummy!

Creamy Sage Butter Sauce

"A rich and creamy white sauce, served best over angel hair pasta."
INGREDIENTS:

1 stick unsalted butter
10 fresh sage leaves (chopped)
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup chicken broth
1 pinch salt and ground black pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS
Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat; add the sage leaves and cook for 2 minutes. Pour in the heavy cream and chicken broth and cook until hot; about 2 minutes more. Season with salt and pepper to serve. Pour over angel hair pasta and garnish with sage leaves.

ENJOY!

A Vintage Beauty, before and after!

We have had many questions as to whether our furniture is new or vintage, many customers that visit us at the Brimfield antique show walk into our booth and insist that our furniture is in too good shape to be vintage! We assure them that it is, it's the hours of labor and care that we put into each piece that makes it so beautiful when it is finished. We are proud to provide our customers with vintage furniture that will be usable for years to come. A before and after picture may help to visualize the transformation!

Many of the pieces we refinish have had hard lives, we can often be found "talking" to each piece, letting it know that we are going to make it beautiful once again for it's next life! We carefully repair each piece, making it sound and ready to go for the next few decades! It is a good feeling knowing that we are "rescuing" a piece that may have ended up tossed in some dark cellar or basement, never again finding it's rightful place among cherished loved pieces. After about 15 hours of labor, our before bed ends up looking like this:

An Ode to Fall...Time to Re-feather our Nests!

White pumpkins, late summer sage, does it get any better than this? Pretty soon the frost will be on the pumpkin, one of our favorite times of year, the fall offers such pretty yields of the summer that was. The sage is so happy in this cool weather, ready to be picked and dried, reminders of the cooking to be done when the weather turns blustery......stuffed, herbed chicken, roasted with sage....what a pleasure....and then, pumpkin pie, sugar and spice and all things nice! Fall harvest time is upon us.

The last of the summer roses are still blooming, a few of my favorite bees are still seeking out the last of the nectar to be had, I even saw one of the foxgloves blooming, another reminder of a sweet summer gone by. The sun was warm and the shadows getting long and it was still early in the day. The blue hydrangea has turned a gorgeous shade of green and purple...perfect for placing in our favorite shabby, chippy containers.

Fall is a time to start thinking about collecting, adding to collections that have been started and now need some new, fabulous updates! We have come across some awesome chalk-ware statues, great for adding to little vignettes or to your decorating projects. Right now we have two very pretty chalk-ware statues on our "Pretty Things" page for sale on our web site, just waiting for your decorating prowess!

This statue of a young girl with a dog has been left in a natural chalk-ware state, no finish has been added to this vintage, one-of-a kind piece.

Little boy blue, (although he is painted white!) is holding a bountiful basket of fruits and flowers. This vintage chalk-ware statue has been painted a gloss white sometime in it's lifetime and does have some chippy spots here and there....so shabby chippy chic!

I love collecting little bits and pieces, items that come from memorable times in life. When I was first married, my husband found a great spot on our property for digging treasures. His yeld was mostly old ketchup bottles, Listerine bottles and odds and ends from the turn or the century, but he did find me some very pretty milk glass cosmetic jars that look great together in a collection. Proof that the lady of the house used face creams! I wonder if they ever dreamed we would be digging up their trash using it for display treasures? One never knows.......

An awesome trip to the fabric warehouse!

I am so excited! Today we spent some time visiting a fabulous fabric warehouse, we were oohing an ahhing over so many pretty fabrics they had to offer. Some of the Ralph Lauren fabrics were so gorgeous, they would make your mouth water! We are going to add some scrumptious new items to our web site, so keep tuned! We have been collecting some great stuffed, upholstered chairs to add to our line of furniture.....Oh wait till you see some of the creations we come up with! Since many of our great customers are furnishing children's bedrooms, we have also had requests for nursery chairs. Nice, comfy stuffed chairs for baby nurseries. Great chairs for Mommy to nurse and comfort their sweet new ones. Gathering ideas for our new adventure has made us anxious to get started! If you have any ideas for great chairs, we would love to hear from you!

Brimfield Antique Show! What a fun time!

Ah! what fun we had! The show was Sept 8-13. As usual, we set our booth up at Brimfield Mass Antique show hoping that the week would bring us good weather and lots of great customers. The show did not disappoint us except for one day of terrible weather! You certainly know you have serious customers when they come trudging out in rain and cold! They found us with down jackets on, wrapped up in blankets so we could stay warm! Even though the temperature was around 60 degrees, sitting outside chills you to the bone. Burrrrr! We were so happy to see so many familiar faces, and really, really happy when past customers would stop by to tell us how much they love their furniture. Knowing that all our hard work is appreciated so much makes our hard work so worth while. We can always tell how successful we have been at meeting new customers when our lollipop bowl empties out, it is a good gauge of how many people pass through to shop! We will be getting ready for our show schedule next year, our next show will be in May. It seems

so far away, but it does come fast amongst the daily orders and customer requests!

We are new to the world of blogging~ trial and error~, but I know it will be fun! Passion, that is what we are all about. The love of flea markets. glorious vintage furniture and accessories has taken us over! Although not new to the love of these items, sharing our thoughts about them is. The experience of finding special items that have been concealed from view for many years is addictive, the search is what makes it all worth while! So many treasures have sat idle, packed away in a dusty attic or dark basement, then finally they get their chance, sitting patiently on a table at a flea market, just waiting for someone to recognize their potential! Take for instance this cute little chalk-ware kitten, chippy, yes, (our favorite!) and the most precious face ever! I found him sitting alone among a collection of salt shakers, sadly rejected, stoically waiting for someone to hear his silent "Meow". I snatched him up, realizing what a cute little addition he would be, sitting on top of a vintage dresser displayed in vintage doilies and jewlery! I swear I think I heard his soft meow of thanks!
